"Holy shit—that's a big-ass Shade!", quipped Olivia as she stole a couple of glimpses at the rear view mirror, reflecting what could be the most enormous Shade in history. It looked like a giant leech with arms flailing at the side, and a wide mouth lined with razor-sharp teeth. But it was pretty quick on its feet; it relentlessly pursued them at their tail and did not seem to want to stop. "Of all the fucking Shades, you had to tick off the biggest fucking piece of Shady shit! Tch!" The monstrous Shade was closing in on them, so Olivia quickly switched their hovercar on full gear, and stepped on the acceleration pedal to speed up. From a distance in this desolate rocky steppe, one would hear the deafeningly loud sonic boom coming from their car. It could have taken this big-ass Shade aback, but it didn't even flinch a bit. It continued to pursue them and even caught up to their speed. "HEY! FUCKING DO SOMETHING!", she screamed at her companion sitting on the passenger seat, while her eyes were glued on the rough expanse of land ahead of them. "I don't wanna wake up yet! It's too darn early for work!"
Well, if they let themselves be caught, they'll wake up from this dream. 0000 Words ● OPEN ● short notes PHARAOH LEAP. | “Yeah, next time I’ll just leave the soul sucking monster alone so it can off some other sap,” Riley shot back, her voice heavy with sarcasm. “And sorry for thinking that maybe the guns in this world weren’t complete shit.”
Okay, so maybe Riley had wanted to try out this weird phaser like rifle out on a real target. And maybe the massive leech shade hadn’t been the best choice for the first test. Really though, someone had to take it out and it had been somewhat reasonable to assume that the weapons in this dream world were far superior to the ones in the waking world. Riley had expected it might take a few shots to kill the thing, but she hadn’t suspected that the beams would bounce right off the shade’s oily skin. She hadn’t expected it to be so fast either. In hindsight, they probably should have had a better escape route planned out in case things went south. Which they had.
She twisted around in her seat to peer out the back window, almost wrenching her neck as the burst of speed pressed her head against the seat. Not that Riley was going to complain about the additional speed right now; she really wasn’t in the mood to get eaten. Still, no matter how fast they were going, it didn’t seem to be making a difference as the shade continued to gain on them.
Now would be the perfect time to call in an airstrike. A couple of bombs and that slimy creature would be an unrecognizable pile of chunks scattered on the steppe. Too bad that wasn’t really an option in this world. All Riley only had that stupid rifle, which had already proven to be fairly useless.
“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?” She shouted back at Olivia, though she was already moving to undo her seatbelt. Even if it was worthless, Riley would rather go down shooting at the shade than let it catch up to them. Riley rolled down the window and turned in her seat so she could face the creature.
Leaning out the window, Riley caught sight of the ground speed along way too close under them. If she fell out she’d be a pancaked against one of the rocks that littered the ground. Well, at least it would be a quicker way to go than being eaten.
Flicking her hair out of her eyes as best she could, Riley sighted down the barrel of the gun, squeezing off a shot. The shade didn’t even flinch. Riley scowled, wishing that this fight was taking place several thousand feet off the ground. There was no time to waste on wishes though since the shade was only seconds from catching up.
Maybe Riley could do some damage if she could get a shot inside the shade’s mouth. It might not work, but it wasn’t as if there was anything else she could do. As she lined up another shot, Riley was glad that the hovercar didn’t bounce around like a typical vehicle. She wasn’t a bad shot, but shooting out of a speeding car window wasn’t exactly easy. At least the rifle seemed easier to aim than most guns she’d shot in the past.
Riley squeezed the trigger and knew she’d missed immediately. The shade was right on top of them as she dropped her aim slightly and fired again. This time the beam slipped past the flashing teeth and disappeared into the shade’s maw. It let out a howl and stumbled, allowing the hovercar to increase the distance between them.
Letting out a whoop that was carried off by the rushing wind, Riley fired again. Her shot was dead on, but it collided uselessly against the shade’s now closed jaws. That wasn’t even fair. Not only was the creature huge and incredibly fast, but it seemed to be decently intelligent as well. Within seconds the creature was chasing after them again and although her shot had gained them precious time, it would catch back up to them before long. Riley really wasn’t looking forward to waking up several hours before she actually needed to.
“If you’ve got any bright ideas, now’s the time to share!” she hollered over the wind, firing off yet another shot that didn’t bother the shade in the slightest.

Just keep driving, driving, driving.Olivia was humming that in her head, while her hands gripped tight on the steering wheel and her foot steadily pressed on the acceleration pedal. She wasn't really paying attention to what Riley was doing. She heard clicks and swooshes, a few screeches and groans from the Shade, and some noise from her that may have signified she hit the Shade. But at their speed, she chose to keep her eyes on the rocky earth ahead of them and steer their hover car to dodge some upheavals or stray boulders that may cause them to stumble. Then, she heard Riley talk again, this time, sensing a bit of doubt and distress from her voice. But she was utterly clueless herself as well, so she bitterly replied, "Well, don't f*cking ask me! I'm not the f*cking idea gal in this team!"She took a sharp turn to the left, and then quickly shifted back to the right narrowly missing a boulder. "All you asked me to do was drive for you and have some sweet f*cking fun!"She maneuvered the hovercar to dodge yet another boulder. "And now, we're being chased by this big piece of shit! FUCKING DO SOMETHIIIIIING!", she screamed in a pretty worried tone. 0000 Words ● OPEN ● short notes PHARAOH LEAP.
