[attr="class","ur_appsubtitle"]RILEY'S STARTING DREAM WORLD
[attr="class","ur_appcont"] GENERAL DESCRIPTION[break] The worst part of flight is being forced to return to earth. Even the knowledge that a flight is temporary is enough to disrupt the feeling of freedom that comes from being unbound from the earth. This hatred of being forced to return resulted in Riley’s dream world taking the form of a city floating in the sky. She calls it Laputa after the hovering city in Gulliver’s Travels, but instead of floating based on some sort of science Riley’s city simply seems to defy physics. However, this does not necessarily apply to everything as visitors to Laputa should be careful not to fall off of the city as it’s a long way down. [break][break] APPEARANCE[break] Laputa is a sprawling ruined city that hovers in the midst of the clouds. It’s not exactly clear how high above the ground the city sits, or if there even is a ground beneath the city. The buildings are of a vaguely Greco-Roman style and are in various stages of disrepair. Some parts of Laputa look as if someone might have lived there recently while sections are barely recognizable as being part of a city. Clusters of buildings sit on top of floating platforms that are connected by walkways. A number of these walkways are crumbling, forcing visitors to have to make some perilous leaps in order to access certain parts of the city.
[break][break]
No matter how much time one spends in Laputa, there always seems to be other areas to explore. Among Riley’s favorites are one platform that is constantly covered by a shallow pool of reflective water that spills over the edge of the platform, yet the water level never goes down, the port where several airships are docked, and a massive palace-like building that sits in on a platform in the very center of the city. This structure is in the best state of repair of any of the buildings found in the city and since it is visible from any point in the city, Riley tends to use it as her base of operations. [break][break] POINTS OF ENTRY[break] The entrance to Laputa takes the form of a model airship that is on display in a museum. The airship looks like an old schooner with several propellers mounted on the stern and ends of the mast. If one spins the schooner’s wheel they will find themselves standing on the deck of the schooner gripping a life sized version of the wheel as the ship sails through the sky towards the city. However, one does not actually have any control over the ship and it always docks in the same spot at the port on one side of Laputa. Regardless of whether or not its passenger ties the ship up, it doesn’t drift off until the visitor is ready to leave. [break][break] NOTABLE FIGURES[break] Laputa is populated by shadows that are only visible out of the corner of one’s eye. Although Riley sometimes has the feeling that she knows these people, she is never able to figure out who they are since they tend to disappear when anyone’s full attention is on them. There is one exception to this; a shadow that appears now and then who seems to try to guide someone to a certain location though it never lets its follower get too close. Sometimes the figure is helpful, while other times it leads its follower to some of the most dangerous portions of the city as if it hopes that the person will fall to his or her death which is why Riley calls the shadow the Trickster. Riley is sure that the Trickster is always the same figure despite its varying intentions, though she isn’t exactly sure why she is so confident that this is the case. [break][break]

[attr="class","ur_appsubtitle"]CHARACTER HISTORY
[attr="class","ur_appcont"] Riley knew she wanted to fly the first time she saw a bird take off. Her parents thought her obsession with flight was funny until she broke both legs jumping off the roof of her house when she was five. However, being wheelchair bound for several months did little to deter her from her dream, though it did make her realize that humans weren’t able to fly like birds. Still, even if she could not personally fly, Riley was determined to at least have the next best option.
[break][break]
At first her parents thought it was just a dream that would disappear with time, but Riley’s obsession persisted and she studied almost every aspect of flight and aircraft. After finishing high school she realized that the only realistic way she would be able to fly a plane was to enlist in the military. She enrolled in the Air Force Academy and enlisted the moment she graduated. Riley only recently finished her training and was stationed at the base in Mountain Home, Idaho. While she was hoping to be able to travel some, Riley doesn’t care too much so long as she is able to fly.
