[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]WHAT IS DREAMWALKING AND WHAT ARE DREAMWALKERS?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Dreamwalking is the supernatural ability to enter the dreams of another person. Individuals who possess these abilities are called dreamwalkers. When entering dreams of others, dreamwalkers can also adapt to the laws applied these dream worlds and blend in. Such as, when they enter a dream world of witchcraft and sorcery, they manifest as witches or sorcerers themselves within the mentioned dream world.
[attr="id","faq_02"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]HOW WERE DREAMWALKERS CREATED?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Dreamwalkers are primarily humans or animals who dream, just like everyone. However, ten years prior to the current time, their dreamwalking abilities were 'awakened' when the earth, Gaea, detected in the dream universe these creatures called the Shades who aim to corrupt dreamers' soul, as well as hers if they manage to find it. Dreamwalkers started discovering their abilities when they noticed they were having the same kind of dream over and over again, and have full recollection of this dream, which is actually their astral selves' experience of their own unique dream worlds.

[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]WHAT ARE DREAM WORLDS?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Dream worlds are universes built by any person dreaming, and they can be literally anything—from superhero universes to zombie apocalypse settings. It is believed that dream worlds are 'labyrinths' built by the subconscious in order to protect and hide the soul of the person, which is an entity completely separate from the dreamer's perceived self or the astral self. The person's soul can be anything—an object or a person in the dream world—manifested in the most inconspicuous manner.
Unlike most dreamers with ever-changing dreams, the dream worlds of dreamwalkers are very stable and unchanging. They usually are patterned from a strong aspect of their personality. This stability allows dreamwalkers to learn greater control of their astral selves in the dream and use this to their advantage in the battle against the Shades. To explain it in a more explicit way—let's say your dream world is a Harry Potter-esque world. Having a stable dream world gives you enough time to get used to your astral self in the HP-esque world. You'd know which spells to use. You would have knowledge of the different 'laws' of this world. And so when facing against a Shade, you'd know what do. On the contrary, if your dream world is constantly changing just like normal dreamers, you wouldn't have much knowledge on your adapted skills when a new type of universe takes over.
However, the same stability also attracts more Shades into the dreamwalker worlds as it becomes navigable to them and a greater chance to locate and corrupt their souls.

[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]HOW DO YOU ENTER AND LEAVE OTHERS' DREAM WORLDS?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Entering dream worlds vary from dreamer to dreamer. Everyone's dreams are connected to Gaea's; so the way to enter them is to first go to Gaea's dream. From there, one may enter to a normal human's dream through Morpheus' Great Network of dreams, which looks much like a big entangled knot of convoluted highways and flyovers.
Through this Great Network, dreamwalkers can easily stumble upon the dream worlds of their fellow dreamwalkers and dreamers alike, although anyone can tell that not all worlds are a little too welcoming of random visitors. For some dreamwalkers, they have been a little too creative on accessing their dreamworlds. Some have designated keys to instantly transport to their worlds. These keys vary from physical objects like an actual key, a mental image of something or someone, a particular physical movement like a dance or some sort of choreography, or a simple phrase or word like Abracadabra. Dreamwalkers can provide it to friends and trusted ones so these folks can instantly enter their dream worlds without having to traverse the Great Network. Unfortunately, Shades are able to obtain these keys without permission from the owner, as long as they have already entered the world.
On the other hand, leaving one's dream world is not as hard as entering it. Gaea provided dreamwalkers a quick eject mechanism by just a simple thought. One simple thought of getting out of the dream world is all it takes for a dreamwalker to suddenly get pulled out and return to Gaea's dream. There's that, and the option to kill your astral self within the dream and wake up. The only caveat for that is the character will be missing a lot of happenings within the dream world due to its severe time dilation relative to the waking world. Such as, mere minutes in the waking world may already mean hours or days passed in the dream worlds.

[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS WITHIN DREAM WORLDS?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]As a roleplayer, the restrictions of your dream world depend on your discretion. However, as a general rule, we don't want to see ones wherein you have made your character to be some kind of the 'god' of this world, unless you made everyone else gods too (as in a Greek mythology-inspired world). The astral selves are still BOUND to the rules of the character's dream world, even if it's their own subconscious that created it. As such, if let's say you have a 1950's mafia dream world, your character can't just suddenly have the supernatural ability to conjure fire, just because he/she owns the place. Things happening in your own world has to be logical.
Also, building worlds where every inhabitant is invincible and/or too powerful is not allowed, not because of "godmoddy" reasons but because IC-wise, this puts the dreamwalker at risk for Shade invasion. Shades, too, will pick up this invincibility and will be unstoppable within your world; and your character will fall.

[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]WHAT ARE SHADES?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Shades are malevolent dreamwalker-like creatures of yet unknown origins. They can appear in any form such as a person or a monster within the dream. They have dreamwalker abilities such as entering into people's dreams, adapting and blending in with the universe, but they mean no good. They try to corrupt the dreamer until they find the soul, which they aim to turn into their own kind. They are more drawn into dreamwalkers' worlds since these worlds are unchanging, hence a better chance of finding the soul. However, with the dreamwalker's greater control of their astral selves within the dream, they can extinguish the Shades with ease.
Shades are not only found within individuals' dream worlds but also within the greater dream world dreamt by the earth or Gaea. Just like how the Shades wanted human souls, they also hunger for the earth's greatest prize—Gaea's soul.
While primordial shades have yet unknown origins, we do know that some Shades are actually corrupted human souls (mostly dreamwalkers) with their bodies in comatose. Shades have the same dreamwalking abilities, except they don't have their own dream worlds. They also have the ability to transform their appearances in order to disguise themselves within dream worlds.
Also, animals can never be turned into Shades, because all animals are friends! Hence, if a shade manages to find an animal's soul, it will destroy the soul rather than corrupt it.

[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]WHAT HAPPENS IF YOUR SOUL IS FOUND BY A SHADE?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Souls are the very essence of human life. Their tangible versions are hidden within the dreams—not even the characters themselves know the location within their dream world (although you as a roleplayer may determine where it is). They are indeed well-hidden. However, in the event a Shade manages to find it, it will turn the person's soul into a Shade, while the body falls into comatose. But if the soul itself is destroyed, the person dies.
[attr="id","faq_08"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]WHAT IS GAEA'S DREAM?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Gaea's dream is the bigger dream world built by the earth or Gaea. It is a shared dreamscape where all the dreamers from the world appear and dwell when dreaming, aside from their own personal dream worlds. Just like any dreamer, it is constantly changing and hiding Gaea's soul. When dreamers sleep and dream, their astral selves randomly 'respawn' (gaming parlance yay!) either within their own dream worlds or Gaea's dream.
[attr="id","faq_09"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET KILLED WITHIN A DREAM?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]You wake up, while NPC Shades get killed, permanently. Killing off PC Shades lies on the roleplayer's discretion.
[attr="id","faq_10"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]CAN THERE BE OTHER PEOPLE/FIGURES LIVING IN MY OWN DREAM WORLD?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Yes, there can be souls of the departed loved ones who reside in your dream world, childhood imaginary friends, Shade-like personifications of your repressed fears, a 'dream copy' of people you know, etc. There's a lot of possibilities!
[attr="id","faq_11"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]CAN WE ROLEPLAY SHADES?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Yes, you can! There is a separate kind of application for Shades, although they have certain restrictions that makes them different from dreamwalkers. Please see Application board for the guide. Additionally, dreamwalkers can include Shades in their roleplays and plots as side-playable characters.
[attr="id","faq_12"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]CAN WE ROLEPLAY AS ANIMALS?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Animals dream too! They can be dreamwalkers as well! So yes, you may roleplay as animals. You may claim a face for your animal character too, in its "in-dream" anthropomorphic state. And for roleplay purposes, animals within the dream world are able to speak and understand human language.
[attr="id","faq_13"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]IS DREAM-LAYERING ALLOWED (AS IN A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM)?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Dreaming within a dream is indeed allowed. However, the dream world within that next layer will be same as the top layer's dream world. Such as, if the character's primary dream world is an Avatar: the Last Airbender universe, and the person's astral self sleeps and dreams within that dream world, the next dream layer's world would stay the same: still the Avatar world. One may only have a different dream layer if the owner of the dream world has purchased the right to a dream world expansion. Please see the SHOP for details.
[attr="id","faq_14"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]WHY ARE PLOT PAGES IMPORTANT IN THIS RP?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Plot pages is almost a must for every dreamwalker in this site. Primarily, not because of actually making good plots and relationships (which I hope everyone does regardless of it not being the main reason), but because it will help all of us keep track of how one dreamwalker adapts to the dream world of another. To give an example: let's say I have a Legend of Korra dream world. People visiting my world must determine what kind of character they'd become in order to blend in. One could say he'll be a firebender living in Republic City when he gets into my dream world. The appearance and the personality of the character are retained, but it's the details of his identity that gets changed. Suffice to say, we can describe plot page replies as 'mini character applications' for every character's plot page.
[attr="id","faq_15"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]IS THERE SOME KIND OF AN ORGANIZATION ASSEMBLING ALL DREAMWALKERS?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Yes, there is! The only information I can give you now is their name: Untold Reverie. But all the details about this organization will be revealed in the future! So stay tuned!
[attr="id","faq_16"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]BECAUSE OPEN EXPLORATION OF WORLDS IS ALLOWED, CAN WE RP WITHIN THE DREAM WORLD OF ANOTHER MEMBER EVEN IF HE OR SHE IS NOT INCLUDED IN OUR RP?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Ask the owner if his or her world is open for non-contact visits. If he or she does not mind, then go ahead.
[attr="id","faq_17"]
[attr="class","ur_thread_subtitle"]WHAT CAN MY SHADE SHAPESHIFT INTO?
[attr="class","ur_thread_cont"]Anything that exists within the dream world they are currently in! Like dream walkers, Shades adapt to the reality in a specific dream world, and are limited to the abilities found within. If not incognito as a fellow dream walker, they will often take the shape of whatever enemies found in the dream. So, in a Harry Potter dream world where Dementors are a threat, they could shift into one and be able to use Dementor abilities. They can also shift into inanimate objects. As a general rule, however, unless you get permission from your fellow RPer, your Shade can't shift into anything that will drastically alter the status quo power-wise, or any enemy not found in the dream already. If a dream world is usually a peaceful place with very little major enemy threat, a Shade can't enter the dream world and shapeshift into some all powerful enemy that happens to kind of fit with the dream world theme. If a Legend of Zelda dream world is in a peaceful state with no current threats, a Shade can't suddenly enter and become Ganondorf right off the bat, with all his powers and resources, and set loose an army on the dreamer. A ReDead? Sure, probably. It will generally take more work to start sinking the dream into a more chaotic and nightmarish state though. When in doubt, seriously just ask the person you're RPing with, "What's okay?"
