☻ Son of an American Serviceman and his Japanese mother, neither of whom had desired to have a child. His father returned to America early in Yoshi's life because of his military duties, although the American citizenship paperwork for Yoshi and his mother was still in processing. As the investigation was pending Yoshi and his mother stayed with his grandparents. The grandparents were less than approving of Yoshi's existence, but tried their best to refrain from hurting the child's feelings. In truth, Yoshi's father had a family back at home and had never put in the paperwork... he would never return to Japan.

☻ Often treated as a pest by his family, it became a self fulfilling prophecy throughout his youth. Realizing that he would always be looked down upon, Yoshi began to act out in order to get the only kind of attention he could. His early school life was wrought with time in detention, and the only friends that he found were among those of schoolyard bullies. Yoshi was in a constant threat of being expelled from his school and his grades suffered terribly. His self destructive path seemed as if it would never end, until he met Kaiyo.

☻ Kaiyo had been an antithesis of Yoshi. She had high marks in the classroom and never got into any trouble. Until the age of thirteen Yoshi was more or less oblivious to her existence. He was in danger of being held back a year, and she was assigned to tutor him. Kaiyo treated Yoshi with sweetness and positive encouragement. He soon began to excel in his schoolwork, even falling out of the bad crowd that he had previously been in. He became addicted to Kaiyo's praise and found himself within the girl's social circle- but Yoshi had soon began to have feelings for the girl. It was during this time in his life that Yoshi first became a dream walker, his dreamworld a fantastic masked ballroom.

☻ At the age of sixteen, Yoshi and Kaiyo were finally together and dating. Yoshi had turned around his life and matured emotionally. He was still known to play practical jokes and had a love of cheesy puns, but as long as Kaiyo was by his side he would be forever happy. The unfortunate truth though, was that Kaiyo had never truly had any romantic feelings for Yoshi. She had truly cared for him as a friend, but had only agreed to date him to spare his feelings. The more serious that Yoshi got with their relationship, the harder it became for Kaiyo to bare. One year later, Kaiyo suddenly exploded on Yoshi as he started speaking to her about plans for children. She unleashed her built up stress on him and left his heart broken.

☻ With his heart broken, Yoshi fell into a spiraling depression. He began skipping classes and his grades again began to fall. Yoshi even gave up plans of trying to attend university. Yoshi spent his early adulthood working as a clerk at a supermarket, and his nights enjoying alcoholic substances. Yoshi found the paycheck of a clerk to be unsatisfactory, and soon joined the Yakuza as a rank and file member. For the most part his time with them was docile- until he was sent to collect upon a debt owed by a client. Yoshi's last waking memory was that of a large man in a greasy chef's outfit swinging a large rolling pin at his head.

☻ Yoshi found himself trapped within his dreamworld, a world of masked romance and dancing. He had grown to loathe the place as figments constantly approached him: asking him when his date would arrive, why he was sulking alone in the corner, and why he didn't seem to be having any fun. The longer that Yoshi remained in that dreamworld, the more tormenting it became for him. He would soon find poison that he would slip into the drinks of the party goers, killing them all. As the final guest fell and the ballroom began to distort, one of his masked guests called out to him as she removed her mask... it had been the face of Kaiyo. Yoshi plummeted into the void.

☻ Yoshi's first days of shadehood were spent as a somber masked figure that wandered throughout the dreams of others. He at this point sought only to be alone and could only be found at the corners of dreams, concealing himself from others. For the first several years as a shade, Yoshi felt no malevolent urges against dreamers. This began to change the longer that Yoshi deprived himself of joy of any kind. One day, he heard a voice coming from an unknown origin.To his horror, a large mouth had formed over his chest. A being of its own sentience, the mouth seemed to exhibit Yoshi's most wicked thoughts and feelings... but it was also someone to talk to. Kuchi, as Yoshi came to call the being living within his chest, began to encourage Yoshi to explore the dreams of others so that they could experience joy and happiness again.

☻ As Yoshi came to enjoy the dream worlds of others, even appearing before dreamers with a smile on his face, he would often present them with a test or a game of wit to play. The first person that Yoshi was successful in stumping at a game of riddles was a young girl. With a strange sense of a loss of control, he grabbed the girl and Kuchi seemingly swallowed her whole. Numerous swallowing incidents would occur with Yoshi's games, though Yoshi himself never seemed to be able to recall the incidents. He would always awaken in another dream days later, with Kuchi encouraging him to meet more nice dreamers.

☻ Without confronting his heartbreak and finding love, Yoshi could never be redeemed. It is unfortunately very difficult to even befriend Yoshi with the threat of being devoured as a constant issue.
